Last month was the inaugural Dine & Dish, with the theme of Barfly, and *wow!* even though the theme had been posted up fairly late in April giving everyone only three weeks, almost a dozen players dished out their adventures. Even Jason Russell, sans blog, sent his San Francisco experience via email – thanks, JR! Fun fun fun for me to go out (as well as coming up with the theme!), I hope it was fun for everyone else, and I’m looking forward to....
May! I’ve gotten the hang of blogging now, and it sure can get busy – flitting about the city to dine out, creatively sneaking photos of food, cooking at home, eating, and then staying up well past Iron Chef *giggle* to post photos and stories. So, I’m posting the theme early enough in the month of May, giving us all a good four weeks to *oh the burden* eat out! ;)
And now, I give you the theme for this month’s Dine & Dish...
QUEEN OF CUISINE: Ladies in the Kitchen
With Mother’s Day this coming weekend, I think about my first impressions of all things culinary. How to boil water, why food is important, where I developed my peculiar tastes. It was led by a woman, my mother. She ruled the kitchen in our house. Even after a full day at work, my mom would glide into the kitchen, open the fridge and pantry, and where I had seen no potential in my after school scrounging for a snack, she would pull out this and this and a little of that, and with with flawless execution, she put on the table a fabulous dinner for five, sometimes more for company. She was a master. Perfect. Professional. Wow, what a woman.
And so, I admire women who have the discipline and skill to run a kitchen like nobody’s business, turning out amazing food, and with such grace and beauty. Let’s eat out at a place that’s run by a woman. Perhaps she’s an award-winning chef with three of her own restaurants (yes, I already know where I’m making a reservation here in L.A. - *chuckle*). Maybe there’s a quiet senorita modestly running la cocina of your favorite cantina. It doesn’t have to be a fancy place and she doesn’t have to be famous, as long as she’s the Queen of Cuisine.
There are no hard and fast rules here – just fun and food, but just in case there is someone who likes to have guidelines:
1. Interpret the theme as you wish – QUEEN OF CUISINE
2. Go eat any time betwixt now and Monday, May 30, 2005
3. Write about it on your blog (or email the story to if you don’t have one) on the 30th.
4. Email me the link
5. I will put a nice, neat little summary of all the experiences, linking out to everyone else's posts on Tuesday, May 31st.
Now, all hail the Queen of Cuisine!
