    Getting to Know You

    Hello, My Name is Delicious
Hi. My name is Sarah. I eat far too much than is fashionable, eat out far too much than funemployment should allow, and sometimes, I write about things that could get me into big trouble in little China. In fact, I write this blog. Occasionally, I think it’s funny, but usually, it makes me cry hot tears onto my pillow at night.

There’s more information about me, but enough about me, daaahling. Let’s talk about...me.

I entertain this romantic notion in my head that there are, indeed, a few readers of The Delicious Life. Like seven, perhaps eight if it's a slow day in the corporate world. At least, a few readers beyond the friends and family whom I force to read because I test them on a weekly basis and threaten to sabotage family get-togethers if they don’t pass, and unfortuantely kids, there is no curve.

I want to get to know you, my seven readers. I want us to, you know, have a relationship. So I have come up with a few random questions that I have randomly selected from random sources that you can answer in the comments. Let's get to know each other. Heck, other readers will get to know each other and it will be like one big delicious orgy. And if it's your first time here, well, pour yourself a cocktail already, and join the fun! We don't bite. Unless you want us to.

    1. What do you do as your occupation?
    2. Drink: what and where?
    3. What was the last thing you ate? If it is the same as mine, omg, that is like...freaky. We could be like...twins.
    4. I know you never cheat on me, but let’s just say you were to cheat on me. Which other blogs do you read? (Ha! It was a trick question! I knew it! You cheater!)
    5. How did we first meet? In other words, how did you first find your way here? (Oh, and if you're one of the ones I paid off, let's just keep that our little secret, 'k?)
    6. Do you take baths?
    7. It’s Friday night. The lights are low. You’re lookin’ out for a place to go...where to, rockstar?
    8. French fries or onion rings? (Don’t you love multiple choice?)
    9. Tony Bourdain: hot or not?
    10. Favorite ice cream flavor?

And if there is anything else you would like to share about yourself that might help you in a court of law, rants, raves, and/or well-thought-out opinions about the state of global warming, please, feel free to share.

This vaguely sounds like a veiled attempt at market research. Are you trying to target and niche your reader audience?

      1. Attorney. (I know. Not very original.)

      2. I don't really have a regular drink but I'll take a Ketel One Martini with a twist or Tanqueray and Tonic almost anytime; good red wine with steak; champagne with sushi; beer with barbecue.

      3. Lemon Blueberry Old-Fashioned Donut.

      4. Saute Wednesday, Michael Bauer, Frank Bruni, Eric Asimov, WhiteTrashBBQ. But I always read yours first.

      5. I actually don't recall. It might have been a link from Deep End Dining or Professor Salt's.

      6. Maybe once every few months.

      7. Maybe Zucca for drinks with former co-workers or 25 Degrees for a burger and cocktails or a good sushi bar.

      8. 1/2 and 1/2 please.

      9. Not hot.

      10. Ortman's Lemon Custard. I don't even know if they make it anymore. The store on Solano is long gone and the deli where they used to carry it is gone too.

      1. What do you do as your occupation?

I pretend that I know what I'm doing.

      2. Drink: what and where?

It USED to be the Dr. Pepper thing at Luna Park, but the bastards took it off the menu without even consulting me. It came with Dr. Pepper Jelly Bellys, and you mixed it yourself. RAR! However, my fallback standby drink has always been a GOOD dirty martini. I'm digging the "Hot & Dirty" Martini that The Well has, lately.

      3. What was the last thing you ate? If it is the same as mine, omg, that is like...freaky. We could be like...twins.

A bowl of Grape Nuts cereal. And there were neither grapes nor nuts in there. Liars.

      4. I know you never cheat on me, but let’s just say you were to cheat on me. Which other blogs do you read? (Ha! It was a trick question! I knew it! You cheater!)

There are other blogs out there??!!

      5. How did we first meet? In other words, how did you first find your way here? (Oh, and if you're one of the ones I paid off, let's just keep that our little secret, 'k?)

You hired me through the escort service, remember?

      6. Do you take baths?

Hell yes, wherever I can find them.

      7. It’s Friday night. The lights are low. You’re lookin’ out for a place to go...where to, rockstar?

This is a tough one. In my old hood, in YOUR favorite place (the Valley with a capital V) it was The Chimneysweep! A bar where everbody knows your name. Now it's the Little Bar, near mi casa. Same vibe, with nicer bathrooms. Either that, or partying with my friends at random locations around town. Sometimes I meet random foodblogger women for champagne and sushi. Bizarre.

      8. French fries or onion rings? (Don’t you love multiple choice?)

Fries usually, although I've been known to go for a well made ring or two. Just don't kiss me afterwards.

      9. Tony Bourdain: hot or not?

I have no idea who this is, so I'm saying "not".

      10. Favorite ice cream flavor?

      French Vanilla or Peanut Butter.

      1. Grad student/research assistant. Which means I spend most of my occupational time patiently battling all the foilbles that interfere with getting any actual research done.

      2. Cerveza Pacifico Clara with limes (on my front porch); Stoli Orange with soda and lime or Patron Anejo neat (at most bars); vino at dinner; bubbles all other times. Except when I'm drinking Lone Star.

      3. Baked potato with broccoli, green peas, sriracha, black pepper and reggiano parmigiano. Yes, grad student budget, but you can forget about ramen noodles.

      4. Stickyrice, Waiter rant, Mimi in NY, Cork and Demon, the Wine Offensive, Dooce, Real Climate/Climate Science.

      5. Can't remember how we met, it was so long ago. What, you mean YOU don't remember either?

      6. When I happen upon a bathtub, yes.

      7. In my living room, listening to old deep funk and soul on the college station, under the influence of..., dancing in my stocking feet. Or going to see live rock and roll. If there ain't a cool show in town, it's down to the rack room for the pool tables and heavy metal jukebox.

      8. Frings.

      9. Well, not hot, but not "not" either. I think his attitude is hot, but would I do him? who's to say. what's for dinner?

      10. True Mexican Vanilla.

Call it "global climate change". While we have documented an increase in atmospheric/oceanic CO2 levels and increased sea surface temperatures over the last 20 years, there's no real irrefutable way of quantifying the resultant impacts as "global warming". Love your blog. Hope you win.

      2. Granville Island Honey Pale Ale - On a low-lit back porch somewhere where I can see the stars.

      3. MY HAND. No...really, lessee a whole wheat flatbread loaded with a veggie tuna salad and lots and lots of crispy redleaf. (Must lose those freshman...er..30. ^^ I want abs Dangit!)

      5. Slashfood linked you for your first bibihm bahp article from 2005, then I e-mailed you for the follow up link recently and you actually responded. Tasted great by the way (I used Ginger Ale in my bulgogi)

      6. I Am a guy...so, not as much, but once in a blue moon, and maybe soon I will.

      7. Wherever food is hard to pronounce, and only if my fellow travellers can succumb to my adventurous ways.

      8. French Fries with skins, and malt vinegar.

      9. I respect Anthony, let's leave it at that.

      10. Latte (or Cappaccino, it varies on the place/tub) =D

Anything else? Well...I recently became a food addict, I blame boredom and the insatiable urge to make a good scone, but it seems to be here to stay. To satiate my nagging monkey I have been trying to make lots of my store bought favorites the rough and tough way (scratch). Even further, I have taken pictures in an attempt to prepare myself for foodblogging, but haven't had an oppurtunity to start one yet. That and in all honesty I tend to fail a lot more than I succeed. (the sadness) So it is becoming the basis of a new blog called "Not a Foodie: Charcoal is our Friend"

That and my flailingly dying diet seem to want to rebel. In fact I think male food bloggers are even more self-concious about their weight than women. Something I will soon prove.

      1. Speechwriter and general corporate drudge. 2. Drank up my quota 20 years ago, now a connoisseur of mineral water. 3. Chicken with ginger and scallions, prepared by my Thai-born wife. Aroy dee! 4. "L.A. Observed" is a daily must. The only other blog I visit that pays much attention to food is "Franklin Avenue." 5. Not sure. I think maybe it was "L.A. Blogs," where I was checking out blogs more or less at random. The name "Delicious Life" intrigued me, then the writing and photography knocked me out. 6. Who has time? That's why showers were invented. 7. Our favorite is Chao Krung, on Fairfax near Beverly. Try the Salmon Penang. Also the charbroiled Portobello Salad. Top-notch Thai food, pretty surroundings, a friendly staff in traditional Thai costume. 8. Sorry, but my cardiologist frowns on both. *sigh* 9. Who is he? 10. It's really vanilla, but my cardiologist would make me say something like "lemon sorbet." I tell him, "What the hell is Lipitor for?"

That's funny, I thought the DL was all about everything Delicious??? Oh well, then

lucky #13: Briefs, CC's , forget boxers, thongs?...ewww! How about you Sarah, bloomies, classic skinny low rise bikini style panties; or current craze BUTT floss (aka thong panties)? I hate butt floss, everytime I see some women bend over at the farmers market, I just want to 'wedgy' them. Well except, thongs already are 'wedgied out'...argh, I hate those things, not sexy at all.

In more delicious news, Mousse Fantasy is now a limited operation in the same location, mostly sharing space with a new Beard Pappa's. Hunky, quite spoken Korean guy there Sarah (real Korean though, speaks fluent English), sort of like Daniel Dae Kim (TV's coverboy, 12 sexiest TV men). I walked by the store yesterday as the rather heavy set ("Kris"?) woman in charge of the Beard Pappa's operation was giving out free samples to workers in the mini strip mall there on Sawtelle. Guy bites into one of these cream puffs, and it drools liquid center onto the parking lot...what a mess, lets hope they do better today on offical opening day Saturday July 1, 2006; cause that was definitely not a delicious cream puff (Mousse Fantasy's old-fashion styled, hmm, I wonder if Junko will still make them for me?, cream puffs were far superior, like the way they used to make them at the pastry shop in Hawaii when my mother was a child).

More Delicious later ;)...ah I don't think you want to have me go into global warming, lol

      l.a.c.

PS for Sarah, if you manage to get up before the Sunday SMFM is sold out of them Wiess Fam. Farms will have ollallieberries. Grown in the Tehachipi Mtn's were they are wild (so he says), these are the best I've tasted of FM berries...but as always, it changes from day to day so taste/sample before you buy (not counting Persian mulberries when they are spot on ripe, Tenerelli's I bought last wk at the Sun HlyFM, were smaller than the week before and many were tasting a bit overripe with 'rasiny' flavors :( ).

      1. What do you do as your occupation?
Full time student at a community college in Torrance, transferring to UCLA or UCI in fall of 07
      2. Drink: what and where?
Don’t drink, I’m something of a teetotaler. (see straight edge)Not because I have anything against alcohol, I just think the smell and taste is bleeeeeeh. My drink of choice however is sparkling apple cider. That is my idea of the high life.
      3. What was the last thing you ate?
Last thing I ate was zaru soba at my favorite local Japanese restaurant.
      4. I know you never cheat on me, but let’s just say you were to cheat on me. Which other blogs do you read? I keep a livejournal and read some of the communities there, most of them focusing on photography.
      5. How did we first meet? In other words, how did you first find your way here?
I first found your blog when searching for pho reviews in the west side/ south bay area.
      6. Do you take baths?
Yes I do, I even have one of those bath pillows you can use.
      7. It’s Friday night. The lights are low. You’re lookin’ out for a place to go...where to, rockstar?
Most of the time to a movie, or to a local show to a band. I also frequent the Westside and skateboard with some of the guys from 9star, on Olympic and Sepulveda if you know the place.
      8. French fries or onion rings? (Don’t you love multiple choice?)
French fries all the way, onion rings only in moderation :)
      9. Tony Bourdain: hot or not?
Well I am a man, but his wit alone is hot.
      10. Favorite ice cream flavor?
I'm a mint chip kind of guy, or rainbow sherbet although I know its not really "ice cream."

By the way, I love reading this blog and just wanted to say you do a fabulous job with it. So keep up the good work! Also, I didn’t really feel like any of these questions really let you know who might be reading this thing, so just wanted to give you basics. So as to understand your audience maybe a little more haha
I’m Roland[thats my face anyway]. I'm 19 and am just finishing up my first year of college. I grew up in Torrance and Gardena and while I'm very Caucasian (Scottish and Russian), my father did artwork (sculptor) for quite a few of Japans city halls. Thus I grew up eating Japanese food, seeing Japanese culture surround me, and as a result I’m more Japanese than a lot of my Japanese friends. In my spare time I play guitar (classical nylon as well as run of the mill teenage electric), and skateboard and bodyboard as well. Well, I hope this has all been enough information, and not too much. Just didn’t want to be another name, and still quite anonymous.
