Cabo Cantina - Where is the Best Happy Hour?

cabo cantina, brentwood, los angeles, ca

    Cabo Cantina
    11829 Wilshire Blvd (@Westgate Avenue)
    Los Angeles, CA 90025
    310.312.5840

I'll make this quick because, well, it's almost time to get happy.

Cabo Cantina is a default choice for Happy Hour because it is very, very close to me (read: walking distance, though, you know I would never consider really walking there, right?).

real man of genius: mr taco salad inventor
    cabo cantina, brentwood, ca
mojito and margarita: not the same thing

The food is decent. The drinks are decent-er. I mean, you can't really mess up Mexican food, even if it has tortilla chips that are dyed very unnatural shades of red and green, but you certainly can’t beat two drinks for the price of one. Okay, sure, they have to be two of the same drink, and don’t try to reason with the servers about getting one drink for 50% off instead. It doesn’t work that way. I don’t think they know math. *ouch* Was that horrible? But they are very cute, so how’s that for redeeming myself?

But I ask the readers, what is your favorite place for Happy Hour?

** a year ago today, linguine with white clam sauce, canned meat products, watermelon tips, little caesar's pizza pizza, and cider doughnuts from the franklin cider mill; of course, kimchee with all of it **

It used to be Authentic Cafe, back when my favorite bartender was working there and every hour was happy hour for me (but back then they had an official happy hour too, which has since disappeared).

But alas, my bartender has gone to design shoes (an equally worthy pursuit, I'm sure you would agree) and I have yet to find a happier hour.

So I am also curious to see what people say.

back when i used to live in the "oc" i used to go to dave and busters. they had a great happy hour from ten to close: 2 for 1 drinks and half off all their appetizers, since i got to la, i haven't yet found anything worth going to regularly...sigh

I get confused by the dates on the blog entries as well...there are regular updates, but then the date is a month old.

3 cheers for Cabo Cantina, i used to (ahem) walk to Q's on Wilshire but then they started charging a cover (and the crowd subsequently sweeled - - gotta love LA, it is only cool if you get to feel exclusive). Cabo showed Q's who is boss..you can't cheat your customers forever.

I go to Cabo's once a week. I'm the guy in the striped shirt......

      Can't beat the drink specials......

Also dig MaKai, Father's Office (sucks now that there's a line), El Cholo, Chaya Venice, Sharkeez, and anywhere else.....

I go to happy hour for the drinks and the crowd, not the food.

      Flying Saucer.
On mondays, 75 of the 80 beers on tap are $2.50 a pint.

      great suggestions all!

kt: authentic - i hear much good stuff about that place, but have yet to try it (for food).

anonymous #1: i am here. just very very behind on uploading photos. stay tuned (please!) i have some good stuff coming up...the counter, west, all over the farmers market. and if you don't care as much about the food, well, lots of drama in life things, too ;)

onetomato: gotta love that chuck e cheese for grownups ;)

wayne: yeah, i HATE cover charges. either i pay a cover and drink for free, or let me in and buy some drinks. sheesh.

xericx: makai, huh? i was not too impressed, but perhaps happy hour is a different story. and have you tried father's office in culver city (actually, don't even know if it's open yet).

anonymous #2: how much more helpful the discussion would be if you would actually share your "strong" suggestions instead of shooting others' down...

      texican: where is flying saucer!??!

bikkuri donki: santa monica and fairfax? defintiely do-able.

and i have to admit that yes, i am not paying attention much to the food during happy hour, too. excelt at mccormick & schmick's, where the burgers are only $2!
