June Food Holidays You Didn't Know Existed But None More Important than Sarah's Birthday

    It's a good thing I don't actually have a job.

Otherwise, these utterly useless-to-everyone-but-me personal side projects that pop up at the spur of the moment and take up every waking second of my work day would cost me my job.

Wait, this is my job. Dammit, I'm going to have to have a little talk with myself.

So, yes, in keeping with my extreme train taste trainspotting-esque tendencies that lead to such things as listing corkage fees for every restaurant in LA or calendaring every food+wine event in LA or verbally abusing nouns like "calendar," I am now obsessively, compulsively keeping track of every "food holiday" that we could and should celebrate during the month of June because if there is one month that we should be celebrating every f**king day, it is June, if not for my birthday, then at least for National Doughnut Day.

As a side note, I momentarily lost all control of my senses and resolved to celeblogging every single one of these holidays, but then I remembered who I are. Right.

We'll see how many consecutive months I can keep this up before I'm forced to fire myself.

(For anyone who cares to know, the doughnuts in the photo above are from some fancy doughnut store in Orange County. My sister bought them on the morning of my nephew's First Birthday party. I ate it while I was getting hair and makeup done. Yes, "getting did." I spent more time getting done for my nephew's first birthday party than I did for either of my sisters' weddings.)

Happy birthday-month! And is Doughnut Day for real?! Damn I wish I lived in the states. Any reason to celebrate with food, especially those condoned by the government, is a winner for me!

catty: it is in fact, Doughnut Day here in the US! it has something to do with the Salvation Army back in the day...of course, no one cares about that anymore. we all just want a reason to eat a doughnut without guilt :)

and you should just up and start Doughnut Day where you live :D i doubt any of these "holidays" are officially sanctioned by the government

June birthdays are the best birthdays! I'll trade you my Dry Martini Day for your Peaches & Cream Day.

I knew June was going to be a good month...
Actually, I have a dry erase calendar in the kitchen, and yesterday a friend of mine did some research and filled in several of these holidays already. I'm definitely going to go add National Peaches and Cream Day, though!

So.. uh happy birthday. I guesstimate with my keen psychic intuition that you are an Ox in the chinese calendar. Dunno could be wrong it's kind of late.

brittany: i love that my birthday falls on National Peaches and Cream day. side story: i had a Peaches & Cream Barbie when I was little! or maybe my sister did and I just imagined that it was mine because all I ever got were National Geographic maps and pencils to play with.

skgwjh: thanks for the birthday wishes! um, for some reason, they don't feel warm, but f**k, i'll take what i can get.

They are warm SJG. They are warm like the gummi worms in my pocket.

They are warm like the seat that somebody just heated up for you while dropping their kids off at the pool.

Warm like the medium dr pepper that you left in the cup holder with the ice melted from the sun, the fizz gone, but the taste somewhat sugary.

Just a head's up, but from what I've seen in Google search results, National Grilling Month is in July. Great post though. I'm using it to add some food holiday related content to the wikiHow Twitter and Facebook pages.

Happy Birthday Sarah! Ahem...not to imply anything in any way, but there's a Paul Simon song (which shows my age) which I'd dedicate to you.....
